Register to solve crimes

PEEL Chamber of Commerce vice-president and Centro Mandurah general manager Nigel Haines met with Senior constable Amanda Ahearn on Tuesday to discuss a CCTV register being set up in Mandurah.

The Blue Iris CCTV register is a new initiative developed by WA Police in conjunction with the Office of Crime Prevention.

The register has been developed as a secure database to hold information on government and private CCTV systems.

It is one of the main components in the State Government’s $6 million Community Crime Prevention Program.

The Blue Iris system will give police access to live vision and could mean faster response times and investigative processes.

Snr-const Ahearn said the system was all about “helping one another”.

“Still images and video footage are considered to be one of the best ways to prove who did what and when,” she said.

“CCTV images can cut down investigation time and may also guide us in achieving very swift outcomes.”

Online registration is open to any owner of a CCTV system.

Police are especially interested in cameras that catch footage in public spaces.

Registration is web-based and can be accessed through the Blue Iris site or the WA Police home page at www.police.wa.gov.au

Alternatively, anyone interested in joining the register can contact Snr-const Ahearn on 9581 0293 or 0418 948 809. (Source: yourguide.com.au)
