Day 2 of NFL Draft

Chicago Bears’ selections and Day 2 of NFL Draft

Armed with nine picks on the second day of the NFL Draft, the Bears have the opportunity to add depth at a lot of positions. Wide receiver and defensive back would appear to be the biggest need. We will see,

9:22 a.m. No. 68: Bears select defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert (6-5, 288) from San Jose State.

This was one of the picks the Bears received after a first-day trade with Seattle. The Bears shipped their second-round pick to the Seahawks. This gives the Bears some depth alongside Tommie Harris. Gilbert moved inside from defensive end, so maybe the Bears could use him there at some point. But Harris’ knee problems might encourage the Bears to keep Gilbert inside. They also have Marcus Harrison, so suddenly the interior of the defensive line is shaping up to look pretty good.

This is truly a case of the Bears going after the best player available. He had 9.5 sacks this past season for the Spartans. Gilbert comes from the same school that produce Rashied Davis. (From here)

Cleveland Browns 2009 NFL Draft Day 2 – Open Thread / Live Blog

The Browns don’t have a pick in the third round — at least not yet — but they very well could move up after three first-round trades yesterday. Or, when we’re on the clock in the fourth round, we could move down to own the entire sixth round of picks!

This is an open thread for Day 2 of the NFL Draft. Please keep all (or most) of today’s draft discussion here.(From here)

2009 NFL Draft: Day 2, Thread 1

First off, thanks to everybody who swung through Niners Nation yesterday.  We shattered all NN traffic records yesterday, going well over 23,000 visitors, more than double our previous high.  It’s exciting times here and it’s all thanks to this great community.

After an action-packed Day 1, we return for the second day of the 2009 NFL Draft.  I expected to have a couple players to discuss, but as well know, the 49ers traded that pick away.  I’ve thrown up a poll to see what the pulse is after the first day.

There was a lot of excitement leading up to and following the Michael Crabtree selection.  However, there were a decent number of groans after the 49ers made their trade with Carolina.  We’ve got people ready to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge, but we’ve also got folks who are perfectly content at this moment.

Personally, I can see the drawback to trading current picks for future picks, but I also would prefer to look on the brightside at this point in time.  We’ve got a potential #1 receiver and we’ve added a #1 pick for next year.  I thought there were some talented guys there in the second round, but there’s a reason I’m not in the 49ers draft room presently. NFL Draft – Day 2: Ravens Open Thread

Well, Day 1 of the 2009 NFL Draft has come and gone, with the obvious being that with all the Mock Drafts by all the experts, no one came even close to expecting the results that we saw, with all the trades and surprising picks, especially the Ravens selections.

However, the more you think about it, the more it begins to make sense. Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome knows the strength of a team comes from its core, and he saw weaknesses on both sides of the ball. Those weaknesses are now definite strengths going into the 2009 season.

The disappointment of the casual fan, and we all were grouped in there for a while esterday before it began to sink in to the loyal, knowledgeable readers of the Beatdown, was that this is still going to be a great draft for Baltimore. (From here)
