Defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert happy to be a Chicago Bear
Defensive tackle Jarron Gilbert, the player the Bears selected with their first pick of the third round, just got off a conference call with Chicago reporters.
Gilbert first talked about his preference in terms of playing defensive tackle or end.
“Either one is actually great for me,” he said. “I’ve had success with both. Inside, I feel like I’m really quick in there. And outside, over the tight end, I feel pretty strong playing that position.”
Gilbert talked about his expectations coming to a team that needed help on defense.
“Really, I just want to come in there and fit in and contribute to the team the best I can right away,” he said. “I know the Bears have a great defense. They made great offensive moves in the off-season. I’m really excited to be on this team.”
Gilbert told the story behind his popular Youtube video.
“The pool incident was after a workout during the summer,” he said. “My strength coach told me the story of (former Bear) Adam Archuleta jumping out the pool, and everybody went crazy. The buzz was unbelievable. So I just went up there and tried it. Got it on the first try. … I had to put it on film.”
On a side note, Gilbert is represented by Frank Bauer, the same agent who represents Lovie Smith, Rod Marinelli, Ron Turner, and Bob Babich. (Source: http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com)
