Kentucky Derby Post Positions set, Dunkirk against all odds
There has never been a Kentucky Derby winner to come out of post position #15, the post position assigned to Kentucky Derby super favorite Dunkirk, now up against all odds.
The recent work times (59:90 over 5 furlongs at Churchill Downs) suggest that Dunkirk is more than capable of becoming the first ever horse to win starting from post position #15 and returning a nice chunk of change on the Kentucky Derby odds.
I Want Revenge is assigned to post position #13, Friesan Fire #6 and Pioneerof the Nile #16.
Friesan Fire was the most impressive on Monday works with a 5 furlong performance that saw him come in at a blazing 0:57:8 that was the best of the 26 horses that ran that distance leading up to the Kentucky Derby post time.
The time was just a fifth of a second off of what Hard Spun did leading up to his 2nd place Derby finish in 2007 and Larry Jones, who trained both horses, seemed to be pleasantly surprised with the work.
There are two main reasons that make us believe I Want Revenge does not deserve to be the favorite in this Kentucky Derby lineup and one of them has to do with the poor track times he’s ran recently at Churchill Downs.
Running well below expectations right before the Derby is never a good sign for the biggest of all the Kentucky Derby favorites.
