Robin Thicke is touring with Oscar and Grammy winning singer and actress and American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson on a co-headlining tour which they both discussed in a recent interview. Thicke addressed the rarity of the male-female co-headlining tour.
I think some of it is because of the genre of music. Whether you’ve got your Pussycat Dolls-Britney Spears tour and that’s for the girls or certain types of guy fans and then you’ve got your Lil Wayne-Kanye-type tour. I think nowadays, people don’t balance the two entities. But I think with Jennifer and I, we’re both real, just singers, who are just singing our hearts out, and I think people are just coming to see good music and good singers.

However, there seems to be a revolution of sorts going on in the contemporary soul world, thanks to folks like Robin Thicke. The R&B singer isn’t just riding on his daddy’s (Growing Pains’ Alan Thicke) reputation; dude has serious white-boy soul, à la Bobby Caldwell and Remy Shand. The 32-year old Grammy winner did learn some songwriting chops from his daddy, who penned the theme songs for The Facts of Life and Diff’rent Strokes, but Robin’s music listens like an authentic brew of soul that recalls the suave stylings of Average White Band and contemporary heavyweights like Jon B.
