Survivor 18 – Tocantins: Episode 08
Brendan’s Exile alliance, which initially seemed like it would shake up the season but ended up quite lame, flipped on him…
On the twenty-first night following Joe’s medical evacuation by helicopter, the Forza tribe returned to camp in a depressed mood. In an effort to change their mood, Coach told a story of his rafting trip in the Peruvian Amazon in which he was captured by natives, tied hand and foot and beaten with clubs. Fearing for his life, he managed to break free of his bonds and escape by kayak.
The others show various signs of disbelief. On the following morning, Coach performs his meditative, “warrior” routine reaffirming his warrior stance, that he is the commander of the forces. When Sierra mocks his routine, he calls her the dragon’s “bowel movement.” Erinn is missing Joe and when she and JT talk, she tells him she likes the Jalapao tribe members better and they speak of alliances.
The Reward Challenge involves splitting into three teams to break an opposing team’s colored tiles for the reward of a white water rafting trip on the Rio Novo and a picnic on the next day. In addition, the winning team wil send one person from either losing team to Exile Island. The team of JT, Debbie and Brendan win and choose Steven to go to Exile Island alone.
On Day 22, Steven struggles with making fire, but when he succeeds, he calls it his own reward. He sees new clues to the already found Hidden Idols and doesn’t bother to search.
The rafting trip is a great adventure. With two guides, the winning trio enjoy the rafting as much as they do the food. They eat sandwiches, fruit and brownies and Brendan and JT talk strategy.
Alliances and strategy is the talk of the day on Day 23. Coach keeps his split vote, for Brendan and Sierra, going, and the Brendan cements his own plans to take out Erinn, Coach and Tyson, who won the first solo Immunity.
The Immunity Challenge is a difficult obstacle course over and around wooden fences while tethered to a rope and undoing others. The first three will go on to a two story course. JT, Tyson and Brendan win the first round, and in the second, Brendan takes the lead, but Tyson takes over and wins Immunity for the second time.
Back at camp, who goes is the prime topic of planning and speculation. Coach keeps to his dragon head theory to get rid of Brendan. JT realizes he can go with either alliance, Coach or Exile Island.
At Tribal Council, Jeff asks a few questions of the tribe, including who has the hidden idol. Only Brendan responds that he does, but he doesn’t play it. As Jeff reads the votes, Coach smiles as he sees his plan falling into place, with the vote split between Brendan and Sierra with two votes for himself. In the end, Brendan is blindsided and becomes the first member of the Survivor Tocantins jury. Even Taj votes for him.
