Barcelona Takes Down Man U in Champions League Final

It’s a sad day for Manchester United fans across the world as their beloved football (or “soccer” as I like to call it) team was defeated by Barcelona. The Champions League final ended up with Man U losing 2-0 to Barcelona, who now holds claim to the European Crown.

The Spanish now have captured their third European Cup title and third trophy in their glorious winning season. For 38 year old Barcelona coach, Pep Guardiola, it was truly an amazing season. Pep was able to accomplish this with a great team in just his first season – that’s quite a feat for a young guy and a first year coach.

Barcelona had won the title back in 1992 and again in 2006. Pep Guardiola played on the winning ‘92 team, so he gets to have this experience from two sides, which makes it an even great victory.

Mike Tyson’s Daughter Dies in Accident

Say what you will about Mike Tyson, but you can’t say anything bad about his little 4 year old daughter, Exodus Tyson. The young girl was critically injured in a freakish treadmill accident at her home in Phoenix Arizona. Reports state that Exodus got a cord near the machine wrapped around her neck while the machine was on. She was found by her 7 year old brother, who told his mom and she immediately called 911. Exodus was immediately taken to the nearby St. Joseph’s Hospital in serious condition and placed on life support.

She passed away at 11:45 AM on May 26th, 2009. Iron Mike was away in Vegas at the time of the accident, but immediately flew into Phoenix to the hospital. Mike and his family are shocked by this terrible tragedy and thanked the support of friends, family and fans in helping them get through this difficult and complicated time.

Indy 500 Race Results

Another year, another Indy 500. For those of you who are interested in the Indy 500, this years winner was Helio Castroneves. This is Helio’s third win in the famous Nascar race, where he’s really making a name for himself. GoDaddy spokeswoman and my personal favorite, Danica Patrick, took third in the race. Unfortunately, Danica was never really close to leading, and ultimately ended up in third place, finishing behind Dan Wheldon.

A special thanks to the ever-informative Inquisitr for the Indy 500 update!

HelloRoss.com Featured on The Tonight Show

HelloRoss.com, yet another blog about “fun” was recently featured on The Tonight Show. I didn’t catch the show, but from the looks of it, the blog is really nothing special. If you visit helloross.com, you are redirected to a blogger blog, at helloross.blogspot.com – which just screams to me that it’s unprofessional. Sorry, blogger (and Google), but if you want a serious website, you should start with your own domain name.

Ross’s little intro on the blog states the following about him and his website:

“This is a place for you & me to connect, share & laugh. My goal in life is to try to have fun with whatever I’m doing – from the mundane to the extraordinary.”

Coupon for Free Oscar Meyer Hot Dogs!

Who wouldn’t like a free hot dog up in their grill? Hopping onto the latest trend of giving away free products to spur some business, Kraft has decided to promote Oscar Meyer by offering coupons for some Oscar Meyer beef franks. Yum.

You can visit Kraft’s promotion page here. Supposedly, all you have to do is enter your information and they say they’ll send you a coupon within 4-6 weeks. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see if anybody actually receives these. Either way, it’s a great promotion for Kraft to capture some contact info. I’m sure they’ll add hundreds of thousands, if not millions of new names to their database. Considering the viral nature of these promotions on the ‘net and the fact that the down economy has people scrambling for freebies, I’d say the collection of a few million names for this promotion is not far off. Not a bad little promo, Kraft. Now give me my hot dogs!

Thanks to Business Pundit for the update on this story.

Abu Ghraib Photos Making Headlines 3 Years After Release

Three years after they were released to the public, photos of the abuse of detainees at Abu Ghraib are sending ripples through the media again. Some sites out there are claiming that these are “new” photos being released, but that’s simply not the case; they’ve likely been misinformed or don’t know the full story.

The reason they’re back in the news is because of the recent move by President Obama to bar any more photos from being released. Maybe they thought re-releasing the old photos would generate some buzz for them? Obama’s decision not to release any more photos has stirred a heated debate on the issue of democracy and the rights of the press. Does Obama have the power to bar the release of any more photos? Should he? Is that really the best thing for America? I personally don’t think so.

If you never got a chance to see the photos the first time around, here they are, courtesy of the Sydney Morning Herald.

HP Earnings Live Up to The Street’s Expectations

Tech-giant, Hewlett Packard recently announced it’s first quarter earnings to the public. They reported profits of $1.7 billion on total sales of $27.4 billion in the last quarter. This comes out to earnings per share of $.86; excluding one-time charges (which HP previously reported), the adjusted earnings per share were $.70.

HP said they expected earnings per share to be between $.84 and $.86, excluding the one-time charges. Wall Street analysts also forecast earnings per share of $.86, again excluding the charges. So, where’s the beef? They met their own expectations as well as those of Wall Street. Sure, revenue is down 17% from Q1 in 2008, but isn’t that the same across the board?

It’s not hard to figure out where those losses came from; as business across the world slice their budgets and hold off on technology upgrades, the sales of PC’s and printers go down. HP has certainly not been immune to this decline, but it seems to me that they’re still doing an OK job. $1.7 billion in profit in a ‘recession’ doesn’t sound too shabby to me. But then again, what the heck do I know?

Rapper Dolla Bill Killed in LA

Up-and-coming rapper ‘Dolla Bill’ was murdered late Monday afternoon after he was shot in the head at a posh Los Angeles shopping center known as the Beverly Center. His real name was Roderick Anthony Burton II and he was first discovered at just 12 years old by the famous rapper Akon.

Akon worked with Dolla Bill to release his first single called “Who the F*** is that?”; Rapper T-Pain was also featured on the track. What makes this story even worse is that Dolla Bill had just arrived in LA from Atlanta to begin recording his debut album.

Police have a suspect in custody, who is being held at $1 million bail for pending murder charges, reports CNN. The suspect’s name is Aubrey Louis Berry and he is 23 years old. Police caught up with him at Los Angeles International Airport, where he was likely on his way out of the city. The motive in the killing isn’t yet apparent, but I’ll keep you updated as I learn more about this story.

Portrait of a President: George Washington

Sometimes I like to take a break from all the hype and not write about the most popular news out there. I find myself gravitating towards topics of an historical nature, mostly because I truly enjoy learning and writing about history. So, I’ve put together a brief portrait of America’s First President, George Washington! I hope you learn something from this brief history of a truly amazing man.

George Washington became the first president of the United States of America on April 30, 1789,helping the country take a giant leap into the democracy it is today. He is known best in modern times as the only president who never occupied the white house, but there is so much more to President Washington than many people realize!

Born on February 22, 1732 to a tobacco farmer and his second wife, President Washington spent his childhood from the age of six being home schooled by his father and his brother. They taught George the love for surveying and farming. At age 20, President Washington was appointed as a district adjutant general in the Virginia militia in 1752.

Jon Gruden to Join Monday Night Football Crew

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers SuperBowl-winning coach, Jon Gruden, has recently signed on to be part of the hosting team for Monday Night Football. Though he got the axe from the Bucs, the folks behind Monay Night Football saw enough talent and popularity in him to bring him on board. In turn, they got rid of Tony Kornheiser, who Gruden will replace.

Monday Night Football will be entering its 40th season this fall, which is when Gruden will get his start. He’ll be joining Mike Tirico and Ron Jaworski. Hi official Monday Night Football Debut will be a preseaon game on August 13th, when the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Arizona Cardinals.

It’s highly debated as to whether Gruden will be able to stick around Monday Night Football or whether his love for coaching will win over. Gruden said that even he isn’t sure how long he’ll be able to stay out of the game, but noted that he’s excited to be part of the game from a different perspective.
