Abu Ghraib Photos Making Headlines 3 Years After Release
Three years after they were released to the public, photos of the abuse of detainees at Abu Ghraib are sending ripples through the media again. Some sites out there are claiming that these are “new” photos being released, but that’s simply not the case; they’ve likely been misinformed or don’t know the full story.
The reason they’re back in the news is because of the recent move by President Obama to bar any more photos from being released. Maybe they thought re-releasing the old photos would generate some buzz for them? Obama’s decision not to release any more photos has stirred a heated debate on the issue of democracy and the rights of the press. Does Obama have the power to bar the release of any more photos? Should he? Is that really the best thing for America? I personally don’t think so.
If you never got a chance to see the photos the first time around, here they are, courtesy of the Sydney Morning Herald.
