Mega Millions jackpot jumps up to $225 million
A run on the $1 tickets has bumped up Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot to $225 million, Georgia Lottery officials said.
Brisk ticket sales led lottery officials to increase the jackpot from $220 million. Sales steadily climbed hourly from noon, when some 205, 209 tickets were sold, to just before 5 p.m., when sales hit around 324,000.
And that’s before the traditional peak time for ticket sales, during the evening rush hour on the day of a drawing, according to the Georgia Lottery.
A player’s winning ticket will match the numbers on five white balls plus the Mega Ball number.
The winner could draw an $8.6 million annual check for 26 years, before taxes. Or they could take a lump sum payment of $143 million, before taxes.
