Obamas To Attend Cinco De Mayo Event On May 4
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will celebrate Cinco de Mayo a little early.
On Monday, May 4, the president will attend a Cinco de Mayo event with Mexico’s Ambassador Arturo Sarukhan (sahr-oo-KHAN’) at the White House. The first lady, Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, also plan to attend.
The holiday celebrates the Mexican troops’ defeat of the French on May 5, 1862, at Puebla.
Before the event, the president will talk taxes. He plans to make remarks with Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner on changes to the tax system.
